More important to me than just a whale photo is the identity of each of these whales. They all have names and stories that we can follow. This is a work in progress as I continue building out the galleries—right now, whales born between 1977 and 2003 are featured, with more to come. Welcome! My photography website is unique in that I share a wide range of wildlife images available for purchase without being contracted by a specific client. Below are some questions I thought you might have. If anything else comes to mind, please feel free to reach out—I’m always happy to help and may even add your question to this list to assist future visitors!!How can I know the whale's name in the photo print I ordered?

Always feel free to reach out and ask! If you’d like to try identifying the whale yourself, each tour-date gallery is labeled with the orca family group or the individual baleen whales seen that day. Several older transient killer whale ID guides are available online, and humpback whales have an extensive catalogue on Happywhale.com. I’ll also be publishing a page called “Meet the Whales” on this website—featuring ID photos and short profiles of every whale I’ve photographed.

Why are some of the photos in your galleries blurry?

Many wildlife photographers share only a handful of their very best images. What you don’t often see are the hundreds—sometimes thousands—of photos taken in pursuit of that one perfect moment. While I always strive for high-quality shots, wildlife photography comes with unique challenges. Each tour offers only brief, unpredictable opportunities to photograph animals, and environmental conditions—mist, rain, heat distortion, distance, or low light—can affect clarity, especially when whales are 100+ yards away. Rather than posting only the occasional “epic” image, I choose to share a more complete story of the wildlife you encountered. This sometimes includes photos that are less than perfect, but they help you remember every whale, bird, marine mammal, or weather moment from your trip. A major part of my photography is environmental education and conservation. I love introducing guests to the individual whales they saw—their names, family histories, and unique features. Because family groups can be widely spread out or unpredictable in their behavior, I don’t always get a crystal-clear photo of each individual. Still, I believe it’s more meaningful to document an encounter than to let it go unrecorded. These photos also contribute to science. Every image I take is shared with researchers studying whale behavior, movements, and social structures. Even imperfect photos can provide valuable data.

I really like one of the landscape photos from my tour but the mountain in the background is not as vibrant as I would like. Can you help?
